About the UC Irvine iReflect Study
Study Overview
Welcome to the UC Irvine iReflect Study, a research prototype designed to support software developers in tracking their well-being and engaging in structured self-reflection.
What to Expect
- Daily Check-Ins: A one-minute survey rating five aspects of your workday — energy, stress, autonomy, competence, and relatedness.
- Reflective Writing: A short written reflection on how your day went. Optional in-line prompts help you get started if a blank page feels daunting.
- AI Conversation (Optional): Turn your reflection into a conversation with an AI partner grounded in Self-Determination Theory. It asks open questions rather than offering advice or diagnosis, designed to deepen your reflection.
- Trends & Insights: Visualizations of your scores over time, alongside written insights drawn from your entries.
Research Framework
Our approach is grounded in Self-Determination Theory (SDT), which identifies three fundamental psychological needs:
- Autonomy: The need to feel in control of your own choices and actions
- Competence: The need to feel capable and effective in your activities
- Relatedness: The need to feel connected and supported by others
